There are tons of self published authors that I follow on Twitter and Facebook, but there are a handful that I really admire. I’d like to introduce you to these authors (in case you don’t already know about them) and tell you why I think they are doing it right.
Not only is Molly a self-published author but she’s also a two time Erma Bombeck Writing Award winner. Her book, Characters in Search of a Novel, leverages her sense of humor as well as her creativity. What I admire about Molly is her approach to building her platform…keep on, keeping on. She started on Twitter with a few hundred followers and slowly but surely built up a following of over 8,000. She also writes seriously funny stuff for the blog Moms Who Needs Wine. Molly has been doing marketing right: slowly but surely with a consistent brand.
Who knew goats could be so funny? Well, if you read Margaret’s blog, Nanny Goats in Panties, then you know. You also know that Margaret can tell a story that will make you laugh your panties off. In fact, she wrote a book about how to get more readers (on your blog), Sticky Readers: How to Attract a Loyal Blog Audience by Writing More Better. This book is highly entertaining and helpful. The principles also apply to authors as well. I admire Margret because she is a great writer and whether it’s her blog or her book, it’s just a pleasure to read what she writes.
When I first discovered Rachel, she had just published her book, A Walk in the Snark. She also had started Book Promo Central and was working on her second book, Mancode Exposed. Since then she has written her third book, Broken Pieces, and begun her social media consultation business, BadRedhead Media. Her writing is snarky but in a good way and her newest book is very raw and vulnerable, which reveals her versatility as a writer. I admire the fact that this woman has two kids and still can get all this done! I’m amazed at how prolific she is!!
Another prolific self-published author I’ve been following for a while is Kimberly. She is the author of over 18 books, including 4 series: Lexie World, Three Lost Kids, The Forbidden Trilogy, and the Seduced Saga. She writes fantasy, paranormal fiction, romance, and young adult novels that are engrossing and entertaining reads. Her stories often include strong female characters (which I love) and great plots. This woman has three small children and is also the co-owner and Marketing Director of Daring Books. I admire Kimberly for her drive and passion. She is a dynamo!
